SAMU is  the practice of selfless service; work that contributes to the maintenance of the temple and/or sangha. Periods of samu are often incorporated into practice days and may include cleaning, cooking, gardening, grounds keeping, etc.

In addition to work practice in the zendo, we are mindful of:

Community Soup Kitchen - Morristown
Empty Bowl provides volunteers every month for the Community Soup Kitchen (CSK) - our neighbors here at the Church of the Redeemer. The program feeds 200 people a day - providing a hot meal for individuals and families in need. The CSK is independent of the church and operates on charitable contributions, food donations, and volunteer efforts. On specific days of the month we are invited to volunteer from 10AM to 1:30 PM to help prepare food and serve guests. It is a beautiful opportunity to extend our practice off the cushion and into world - a recognition of the oneness present in our everyday lives and an expression of compassion and joy. For a list of upcoming dates, see the sign up on the bulletin board outside the zendo or contact Ron Boyum (908) 234-0164 or <>.
